Upcoming Work, Life and Engagement Workshops
The Office of Work, Life and Engagement is delighted to offer a variety of workshops and events to the Hopkins community to help faculty and staff enrich their personal and professional lives. Please see the attached 'Calendar of Events' for information about our May and June offerings. To register for a workshop, visit https://hrnt.jhu.edu/service/fasapregistration/. Please feel free to share this PDF with others who may be interested in learning more about what WorkLife at Johns Hopkins has to offer.
At the end of every school year, students throw away tons of belongings that are still good: clothes, furniture, electronics and household items. Much of this ends up in our landfills. Students, faculty and staff can give such items a second chance by donating them to the JH-U-Turn. Join the June 11, 2011
Proceeds benefit the Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund and the United Way of Central Maryland.
Promoting Social-Emotional Competence in Children
With increased demands on families and the focus on academic skills in schools, few children are taught the skills that foster social-emotional competence—skills that lead to positive academic outcomes and overall life success. In this introductory talk, parents will learn about the importance of social-emotional competence (or SEC) in children's behavior and success in school, at home, and in the communities where they grow and learn. In addition, parents will learn how SEC helps protect children from bullying.
Summer Fire Safety
Summer is just around the corner and many families are looking forward to camping trips, family reunions and cookouts, picnics at the beach, and the Fourth of July. But summer also brings fires and injuries due to fireworks and outdoor grills. Join Ben Selassie, MSW, MPH with the Injury Free Coalition for Kids Baltimore, and learn how you can protect yourself and your loved ones from fire related injury and death. You will receive a free smoke detector and other safety items.
