Breastfeeding Support Program (March 2015)

This year the AWLP also honored Johns Hopkins with the Innovative Excellence Award for our Breastfeeding Support Program. This program has built an infrastructure of support for new moms from the beginning of breastfeeding through the first year of work postpartum. The Office of Work, Life and Engagement offers support through 14 Mother’s Rooms across campuses, breast pumps for a reduced price, and a vending machine with breastfeeding supplies. The program has received national attention at conferences, in the media, and as part of a book on best practices. More...

What to do when Domestic Violence Enters the Workplace
Domestic/intimate partner violence takes place when one partner uses physical violence, intimidation, threats, or emotional, sexual, or economic abuse to control the other partner. Many of our colleagues could be victims of intimate partner violence. It is important that we understand the ways we can support our colleagues through a threatening situation, and help ensure the problem does not escalate into the workplace.

What’s New?
•Tickets are free, however there is a limit of 5 tickets per employee for immediate family members. Tickets are required for entry into the picnic.
•The hours of the picnic have expanded and now start at 3:00 pm. We hope the expanded hours will allow more faculty, staff, and their families to enjoy the festivities.

Live Near Your Work: Take a Walking Tour of Bayview and Greektown (June 2012)

The Johns Hopkins Live Near Your Work Program, in partnership with the Southeast Community Development Corporation, invites you to tour the Bayview and Greektown neighborhoods. We’ll begin in Bayview, a tranquil neighborhood nestled within Southeast Baltimore’s urban setting. Then, we’ll escort you to Greektown and the opening of the Greek Folk Festival. The tour will end with a VIP reception at the festival—Greek food and festivities for all. During the tour, you’ll learn how to qualify for low-interest Healthy Neighborhoods loans as well as other great home buying incentives, including Johns Hopkins Live Near Your Work grants. Attend this or any of the upcoming walking tour events and you will receive an additional $1,000 toward the down payment/closing costs of a home in the A, B or C target areas. (Buyer must settle on or before June 30, 2013.)

Exciting changes and upcoming events for the Johns Hopkins Live Near Your Work (LNYW) Program (May 2011)

The LNYW program has expanded the $17,000 A-2 tier located in East Baltimore and increased D-tier grants to $3,000. What does this mean for Hopkins employees? It means even more neighborhoods and homes to choose from and more down payment/closing cost funds. But wait, that’s not all! On April 1, Hopkins began participation in a new City incentive program called Vacants to Values (V2V). The V2V program provides an extra $500 from the City to Hopkins employees who purchase a City-approved vacant home in one of the LNYW target grant areas of A, B or C. More...
