Johns Hopkins is pleased to partner with the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT) as they seek volunteers to join their Achievement Counts Speakers Bureau. Volunteers inform, motivate and inspire eighth- and ninth-grade students statewide to prepare them for college and careers. The Achievement Counts message increases students’ awareness about the importance of rigorous coursework, college/career expectations and the realities of life after high school. Vernon Rice Memorial Holiday Turkey Program Provides Food during the Holidays

In memory of Vernon Rice, a longtime Johns Hopkins employee and community volunteer, the Johns Hopkins community is invited to donate $20 to provide a basket of a fresh turkey and vegetables from local and free-range farms for a family in need. St. Anthony of Padua Church will deliver the food baskets directly to families for the November and December holidays. To participate, please send a $20 check or money order made payable to:

Payment must be received by November 4 to assist families for Thanksgiving and December 6 for the December holidays.

Staff, Faculty, and Students Provide 1,000 School Uniforms to Support Baltimore City Students (October 2013)

Baltimore City Public Schools has turned to Johns Hopkins to support families who cannot afford the required student uniforms. Since 2011, thanks to the generosity of the Johns Hopkins community, we have met the need. During the 2013 Johns Hopkins Adopt-a-Student Uniform Drive, 500 students from 111 Baltimore City Public Schools were sponsored, providing students with two new uniforms each, to allow them to start the 2012-2013 school year prepared and ready to learn. Staff, Faculty, and Students Provide 1,600 School Uniforms to Support Baltimore City Students (October 2012)

Thank you to the faculty, staff, and students who generously sponsored elementary, middle, and high school students whose families are unable to purchase their mandatory school uniforms. In its 2nd year, the Johns Hopkins Adopt-a-Student Uniform drive sponsored 800 students, an increase of 660 students from the inaugural drive, by collecting donations of $40 to purchase two complete uniforms for each student.
