April 30, 2013 is the deadline for submitting 2012 claims to WageWorks for your health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts. Eligible health care and dependent care expenses must have been incurred from January 1 - December 31, 2012. Participants with remaining balances will need to complete the appropriate Pay Me Back form in order to receive reimbursement. 2013 Pre-Tax Commuting to Work Limits (February 2013)

The JHU Commuting-to-Work Program treats qualified parking and mass transit expenses on a pre-tax basis which means the amounts are excluded from your taxable income up to the amount allowed by the IRS. For tax year 2013, the pre-tax spending limit for mass transit will increase from $120 per month to $245 per month. The monthly limit for non-JHU parking will increase from $240 to $245.

Participating in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a great way to save money in 2013. There are two types of FSAs that you can choose to participate in as an eligible full-time faculty or staff member:
        • Health Care FSA
        • Dependent Care FSA

Based on your anticipated health care and dependent care needs, you make pre-tax contributions out of your paycheck each pay period to your account(s). Then, you use the money in your account(s) to pay for eligible health and/or dependent care expenses throughout the year. Some examples of eligible Health Care FSA expenses include:

        • Deductibles
        • Prescription drugs
        • Eyeglasses/contact lenses
