Express Scripts, the company who manages the university’s prescription benefits for the BlueCross Blue Shield and EHP Classic medical plans has recently announced that they are changing their formulary for 2014. A national panel of physicians and pharmacists continually reviews and compares prescription drugs to ensure the drug list includes proven medications to treat every condition. When determining how to make the most of your coverage, it is important that you know the language and terms, and how they apply to you.

Beginning in 2013, if you enroll in the CareFirst BCBS or EHP Plans, and you purchase formulary and non-formulary brand drugs at a retail pharmacy through Medco/Express Scripts, you’ll pay a coinsurance instead of a copay.
