JHU Policy Amendment to “Ban the Box”

The JHU recruiting and employment policy has been amended for required background checks and conducting credit checks in accordance with the Maryland State Job Applicant Fairness Act. To read the policy in its entirety, go to

The divisional offices’ recruitment and employment specialists collaborated to incorporate treatment requirements to the employment application (“Ban the Box”) and revise the practices to the background check and credit checks policy. The modifications to the recruiting and employment policy are intended to provide clarification to conducting the background check on the final candidate after a contingent offer is made. The additional changes to the policy clarify when a credit check is conducted.
