HR Policy Amended for Families of the Armed Forces

The HR Policies Manual has been amended in Section 13 to add to Item B.7, to address the Maryland law, effective October 1, 2013, providing leave for deployment or return of a family member in the armed forces.

The law provides the following:

  • An eligible employee is authorized to take leave from work on the day an immediate family member is leaving for or returning from active duty outside the United States as a member of the armed forces of the United States.
  • The employee cannot be required to use sick or vacation leave.
  • The employee can be required to submit documentation to verify the leave.
