Johns Hopkins receives the 2013 Work-Life Seal of Distinction

Johns Hopkins is among a select group of 54 private and public organizations from across the country recognized for achieving success in work-life effectiveness by WorldatWork’s Alliance for Work-Life Progress.

The Work-Life Seal of Distinction celebrates employers who demonstrate leadership in workplace strategies and practices that help employees achieve success at work and in their personal lives. Applicants were evaluated based on the breadth and depth of their work-life portfolio, and had to provide evidence of their support in areas spanning dependent care, health and wellness, workplace flexibility, financial support, paid and unpaid time off, community involvement, and efforts to transform organizational culture.

The award is a reflection of efforts across various Johns Hopkins Human Resources offices, as well as initiatives from both the University and the Health System, all striving to make Johns Hopkins a supportive place to work and grow. Key programs that contributed to the award include:

  • Childcare resource and referral services, backup childcare, and childcare subsidies
  • Aging adult resource and referral services and backup eldercare
  • Breastfeeding Support Program
  • Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FASAP)
  • Live Near Your Work
  • Flexible work schedule and alternate work location
  • Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives
  • Health and Wellness Programs
  • Lunchtime workshops on aging adults, financial health and money management, parenting, and health and wellbeing
  • Discounts to amusement parks, arts and culture, sports and fitness, and education
  • Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund and United Way Campaign
  • Adopt-a-Student uniform drive, holiday programs for families and seniors in need, and American Red Cross blood drives

2013 Seal of Distinction awardees will be honored at the Work-Life Awards Gala at the AWLP Work-Life Forum in Baltimore, Md., on Feb. 28, 2013.
