The university uses the "Basic Abilities" approach to determine the appropriate pay grade for your job. A compensation analyst trained in the Basic Abilities job classification system examines your job documentation closely and thoroughly. Your job is compared to other jobs within your department and division/school. The analyst also may confer with other individuals within and outside the university who have particular knowledge of your job. The analyst identifies skills and abilities in your job that are essential, required, and performed on a regular and continuous basis. In addition, the following factors are determined: your level of organizational perspective, degree of independent decision-making, scope of managerial authority and breadth of responsibility, extent of interpersonal skills, and extent of responsibility for laws and regulations required in your job. After careful consideration of all information, a pay grade recommendation is made for your job. Your supervisor, in consultation with Human Resources, will determine the appropriate salary to pay you.
