The Johns Hopkins University is committed to attracting and retaining highly qualified staff members. The Office of Compensation exists to promote fair, equitable, and competitive staff compensation policies, programs, and practices that are supportive and responsive to the needs of its management and staff. It strives to find new ways to effectively reward and motivate staff to reach their fullest employment potential. It aims to provide management with the tools it needs to support the university’s missions in the areas of research, education, and patient care.

To accomplish these objectives, the Office of Compensation is responsible for the following:

  • Partnering with managers to retain & reward employess.
  • Evaluating and classifying staff positions
  • Conducting competitive pay studies for staff positions
  • Establishing salary ranges and annual salary increase guidelines
  • Developing alternative ways of compensating staff
  • Performing salary equity studies
