05/12/2011 Johns Hopkins Medicine Employee Engagement Survey

The School of Medicine is delighted to be participating in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Employee Engagement Survey, which will help us to identify our areas of strengths and weaknesses. We then charge our managers with working with you to create action plans that will make a real difference. It's been three years since we last participated in the survey, and we're ready to refocus on what matters most in our school—you, our employees. From June 6 through June 24, the Gallup Organization will solicit your opinions and thoughts on 27 questions. There will be 12 critical questions directly related to engagement and 15 questions related to respect and fairness, diversity and inclusion, supervisor effectiveness and accountability, and managing change. I do recognize that this is the time of year where there are many surveys coming your way. However, I'd be remiss if I didn't reiterate the impact this particular survey can have in making a difference in our workplace. It's my personal hope that every employee—with the exception of bargaining unit employees, post docs, fellows and students, who will not be participating—will complete this survey. It is you who can make the difference. More...

04/19/2011 JH-U-Turn
At the end of every school year, students throw away tons of belongings that are still good: clothes, furniture, electronics and household items. Much of this ends up in our landfills. Students, faculty and staff can give such items a second chance by donating them to the JH-U-Turn. Proceeds benefit the Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund and the United Way of Central Maryland. Community volunteers are needed! Volunteers are needed to help with sorting, testing and cleaning of donations, as well as setting up the sale. Sorting begins June 8th and runs until the day of the sale. Volunteers are also needed to help out with the sale itself – helpers, cashiers and runners. Anyone who volunteers a minimum of 5 hours, prior to the day of the sale, will receive one (1) early bird pass. On the day of the sale, early bird pass holders will be admitted 30 minutes prior to the doors being opened to the public. To volunteer, please contact Carrie Bennett at liaison@jhu.edu.
